Description For the month of August, Screen will host Jesse Malmed's experimental video Series Buying In. It will consist of multiple monitors on pedestals, playing looped programs of short videos in a cacophonous medley. All of this work is recent, and some of the Conversational Karaoke is brand new.
Malmed's Buying In series mixes languages of the fine art and advertising by appropriating both. Liberalizing the advertising industry's parasitic relationship with the avant-garde, the middlemen have stepped away and canonical figures of experimental media pitch you directly. Buying Injuxtaposes word and image and assimilates the communication strategies of advertising by using logos to represent the "branding" of a video artist's work. This will be one of Malmed's last exhibitions before leaving Portland
